The lectures will cover the following issues:

1. The object of ethics: norms of morality.

2. Main ethical traditions with particular emphasis on their meta-ethical assumptions.

3. Consequentialism. Deontological ethics.

4. Ethics of virtue

5. Theories of natural law.

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

As a result of completion of this course, the student should be able to:

• define the subject of ethics

• List and describe the major positions in the dispute about the nature of moral evaluation

• competently use basic concepts of axiology

As a result of completion of this course the student should be able to:

• analyze the major ethical position in disputes with regard to their basic assumptions

• formulate their own beliefs in terms of normative philosophical axiology

• undertake discussions with representatives of alternative normative-ideological positions

As a result of completion of this course the student should:

• recognize the philosophical ground ideological diversity of ethical attitudes

• be open to dialogue with the representatives of different ideological beliefs

• be ready for the application of knowledge in the field of ethics in professional practice

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment based on: participation in lectures, knowledge of the mandatory reading material and the oral exam.
