ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 0 OR 2.00 (depends on study program) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

MEGA program -how to study the genetic mechanisms of evolutionary processes. Phylogenesis of apes based on the sequence of mitochondrial genes (cytB). Parsymony method in phylogenetics. Construction of phylogenetic tree based on the rRNA gene sequence of small ribosomal subunit (18SRNA). Assessment of the reliability of phylogenetic trees by self-sampling. Models of DNA and protein sequence evolution. Calculation of distances between sequences. Paup phylogenetic analysis program. Maximum likelihood method and choice of DNA sequence evolution model with PartitionFinder. MrBayes program and Bayesian approach to phylogenetic analysis. Participation in exercises and passing the test is the basis for receiving ETCS points

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment credit - verification of learning outcomes through the worksheets checking acquired skills, part of the worksheets are open questions.

The final grade depends on the points from the worksheets; to get 3 (sufficient) - min. 60% is required, for 4 (good) - min. 75%, out of 5 (very good) - min. 90%.

Class attendance - two absences are admitted per semester, in special cases (hospital, special random accidents) three absences can be accepted. Three absences - lowering the grade by 0.5, more absences - incomplete, failed classes.

Activity and preparation for each class (possibility of raising the grade by 0.5).

Part of the learning is a remote form.
