Objectives of the course: The subject of the lecture concerns the phenomenological method and its various formulations and problems connected with these formulations. Therefore, the lecture concerns selected controversies when trying to determine the object, order and objectives of the phenomenological method. Presentations require winnings, major disputes, e.g. a dispute about idealism-realism, about the subject and the beginning of the method.

Prerequisites: knowledge of the history of modern and contemporary philosophy as well as logic, ontology and epistemology.

The aim of the course is to present the main, selected disputes over understanding the phenomenological method. By analyzing these disputes, the aim is to systematically capture the subject, individual elements and objectives of the phenomenological method. During the lecture, examples of phenomenological research are analyzed and the specificity of phenomenological behavior towards other methods of philosophical analysis is specified. There is a distinction between descriptive psychology and phenomenology. The aim is to define the subject, methods and goals of descriptive psychology and to define phenomenology as a smaller philosophy. The lecture presents the radicalism of phenomenology and the definition of its sources in the philosophy of Descartes. The phenomenological method is included as an analysis of what is given in the experiment. The reduction method is recognized as the beginning of philosophy, asking about the motivations for the reduction. This problem is analyzed in the context of the philosophy of Eugen Finek and Jan Patočka. The next goal of the lecture is the question about the relation of phenomenology to the dispute realism-idealism.

Knowledge: the student knows and understands the main directions and positions of contemporary philosophy; the student has a basic knowledge of the presence of philosophical ideas in the works of Polish culture and about the involvement of philosophers in the cultural life of the country.

Skills: the student listens with understanding the oral presentation of philosophical ideas and arguments; The student is able to apply appropriate methods to selected issues within one philosophical trend.

Competences: the student is open to new ideas and ready to change opinions in the light of available data and arguments.
