Short description:

The aim of the course is to gain knowledge on critical assessment of information about the human being and the natural world around him and enable to suggest adequate solutions to problems. The student will be able to demonstrate the knowledge about the peculiarities of human biology (principles of biological evolution applied to humans; origins of human species and their further evolution, human ontogenesis – from birth to biological death and biological, environmental and social factors, human biological diversity, it’s causes and history of interpretations – typological and population-biological approaches).

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

• Learning outcomes: With the use of the knowledge of general biology the student will be able to critically assess the information about the human being and the natural world around him and will be able to suggest adequate solutions to problems. The student will be able to independently gain knowledge about biology of the human being and its biotic and social environment, and will be able to find, evaluate and systematize information. The student will be able to demonstrate the knowledge about the peculiarities of human biology (phylogenesis, ontogenesis, human biological diversity and its causes).

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Methods of knowledge verification

• Evaluation of semester work (2 short essays on chosen topics) – 40 %; final on-line exam (more extended essay) – 60 %.
