Short description:

Level: Basic

Aim of the course

The aim of the course is introduction to students the knowledge in the field of microbiology, in particular ecology of microorganisms and its role in environment and in the existence of human. Exercises will have concentrated on the evaluation of microbial contamination of water, soil and air. Exercises teach basic methods and techniques for detection and quantification of microorganisms in the environment.

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

Knowledge:

1. student is able to describe the main groups of microorganisms and their role in the environment, the economy and human life;

2. student is able to define the basic concepts associated with sterility and methods of work in the microbiological laboratory;

3. student is able to name and describe the basic methods of microbiological analysis of water, soil and air;

4. student is able to explain the influence of abiotic factors on the development of microorganisms;

5. student knows safety rules in the microbiological laboratory;

Skills:

1. student is able to recognize and describe the morphological systems of bacteria and fungi in microscopic preparations;

2. student is able to use basic laboratory equipment and perform basic laboratory activities such as pipetting, making dilutions, inoculations, etc.;

3. student is able to describe the results and draw conclusions from the experience;

Competence:

1. student is able to work in a team;

2. student maintains security while working with microorganisms and is responsible for the equipment;
