Short description: |
Course given its subject matter is very short. It lasts 15 hours. It consists of 5 meetings each lasts 3 hours. Meetings will be held on: October 13th 2016, November 3rd 2016, December 1st 2016, January 12th and February 2nd 2017 year from 16.45-19.00, in 14.54 room of the Institute of Psychology. Achievements of modern psychometrics concern not only small adjustments of conceptual apparatus - in relation to the classical approach - but are so severe that undermine the traditional understanding of the properties of the basic psychological tools such as psychological tests. These include changes related to the understanding of the validity of the test and estimation of its reliability. During the lecture will be presented a new understanding of the above concepts and trends concerning their estimation on the metric level. |
Full description: |
The program of meetings: 1. Objections concerning estimation of the reliability of the psychological test and the new approach to reliability. Coefficients of generalizability. 2. Determinants lowering the reliability, identification of people behaving atypically (Aranowska's method), and other means of identification of atypical groups (eg. in terms of Graded Correspondence Analysis as one of the methods of data mining). 3. Reservations towards the understanding the validity of psychological test and a new definition of validity. Reservations toward the new understanding. 4. Traps related to the assessment of the adequacy of the notions. Directionality of the relations between notions and its impact on the way they are defined. 5. New ways of effectively defining terms; basis for structural modeling. |

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS: |
KNOWLEDGE: People participating in the course receive a very advanced knowledge in the field of modern psychometrics and directions of its further development. Acquired knowledge allows students a more flexible outlook on the measurement of psychic phenomena COMPETENCES: People are able to correctly assess the methodological basis of ways of collecting measurement in psychology. The listener in conscious way uses the acquired knowledge, ie. is aware of the ambiguity of assessments of the used tools. SKILLS Listeners can make a critical analysis of the findings of the studies published in the world literature, and get into the habit of informing other authorized people and institutions (especially scientific publications) on methodological weaknesses encountered in the scientific literature. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
The lecture can be attended by people who have knowledge on psychometrics taught during the 60h course at the Institute of Psychology UKSW, as well as doctoral students and lecturers. The basis of assessment of the course (for those who need to pass the evaluation) is participation in classes and written presentation of their views on the selected issue discussed during the meetings. |
