Short description:

The goal of the class is to familiarise students with fundamental neuropsychological issues, the description of the connection between the brain and the behaviour, and the meaning of cognitive functions for the appropriate course of the complex processes.

Full description:

The goal of the class is to familiarise students with fundamental neuropsychological issues, the description of the connection between the brain and the behaviour, and the meaning of cognitive functions for the appropriate course of the complex processes such as decision making, planning, analysis of information and adaptation processes. The course also presents the latest concepts of the functional organisation of the brain. Additionally, it describes issues related to the significance of cognitive dysfunctions in the development and clinical picture of mental and CNS diseases as well as neuropsychological determinants of relevant brain area damage. The Students will become familiarised with tha basics of neuropsychological diagnostics and the latest research methods on cognitive functions and neuropsychological rehabilitation.

Knowledge:

- to obtain 2 (unsatisfactory): The Student does not explain elementary issues in the area of neuropsychology. Does not know basic anatomy and functional organization of the brain. Cannot list consequences of damages of individual structures of the brain. Does not identify basic neurological conditions. Does not explain the meaning of cognitive dysfunctions in development and clinical picture of mental conditions and central nervous system conditions. Is not familiarised with examination methods of the central nervous system. Does noy explain specificity of neuropsychological rehabilitation and psychotherapy with patients and their family members.

- to obtain 3 (satisfactory): The Student lists basic functional systems, anatomical structures and main development stages of the central nervous system, but cannot discuss them. Lists basis neurological conditions not being familiarised with their specificity. Lists some consequences of brain damage. Lists methods of central nervous system examination. Cursorily explains specificity of neuropsychological rehabilitation and psychotherapy with patients and their family members.

- to obtain 4 (good): The Student briefly and correctly characterises functional systems, anatomical structures, main development stages of central nervous and neuropsychological determinants of damages of specific brain areas. Concisely describes the examination methods of the central nervous system. Presents general knowledge in the scope of neuropsychiatry, neurogeriatrics, neurological conditions, specificity of neuropsychological rehabilitation and psychotherapy with patients and their family members.

to obtain 5 (very good): The Student is perfectly familiarised with neuropsychological knowledge in scope of the material presented during lectures and demonstrates knowledge of additionally recommended literature, discusses the brain anatomical fundamentals and functional organisation. Explains the consequences of damage of specific brain structures. Exhaustively explains basic issues in the area of neuropsychiatry, neurogeriatrics, identifies and characterises types of neurological conditions. Proposes and explains propositions of appriopriately selected examination methods of the central nervous system. Demonstrates familirisation with knowledge in the area of neuropsychological rehabilitation, life quality of patients with brain damage and psychotherapy with patients and their family members.
