Course aims:

The student is acquainted with the basic issues of phonetics and phonology of the contemporary Polish language and learns an independent phonetic and phonological analysis of the text.

Full description:

Course content:

Review of basic problems of phonects and phonology of contemporary Polish language. The student acquires the skill of a phonetic and phonological analysis of the text.

Detailed programme:

1. Structure and functions of speech organs

2. Articulation characteristics of vowels and consonants. Descriptive problem of nasal vowels in Polish.

3. Assimilation and simplification of consonantal groups. Transcription of phonetic texts. Examples of spoken language

4. Regional diversity of Polish phonetics. Assessment of phonetic variants' correctness.

5. Basic notions of phonology - distinctive feature, phonem, phonem variant, phonololgical opposition; a phonem and a sound.

6 Basic phonological characteristics of contemporary Polish language

7. Disputable problems of phonological description.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria: (in Polish)

Warunkiem zaliczenia zajęć jest obecność i aktywność, przygotowanie wskazanych lektur oraz przedstawienie na ćwiczeniach zadań wyznaczonych do samodzielnego opracowania. Ocena wystawiana jest na podstawie wyników kolokwium pisemnego obejmującego materiał całego semestru.
