Level of the course: Basic.

Course objectives: The tasks of the poetics classes are as follows: to acquaint the students with a repertoire of concepts and terms for the analysis and interpretation of a literary work (poetry, epic and drama); to acquire by them the skills to distinguish elements of the artistic structure of the work and to indicate their functions entirely in meaningful self-analysis and interpretation the work; gain the skills of comprehensive reading the theoretical literary studies and deduction of theses posed by the authors, reporting (orally or in writing) taken up by them problems and proposed solutions.

Objectives of the course: theoretical and practical (analysis and interpretation) are understood and implemented in a complementary way. The targets are aimed at a comprehensive skills training competent professional reading of a literary work.

Entrance requirements: history of literature and theoretical knowledge of the subject "Polish."

Course contents:

Stylistics and its content. The issue of poetic language; phonetic style measures; inflectional, syntactic and formative measures of style; lexis as a sphere of stylistic choices; lexis and semantics; metaphor; allegory, myth, and symbol; styling and its types; Summary: elements of general theory of style.

Methods of assessment:

The basis of the study is the reading of poetry and theoretical studies and the the student's analytical and interpretative work on selected literary texts taken from the perspective of theoretical issues. The student is required to sound knowledge of theoretical and literary readings,confirmed by active participation in classes and positive result of the tests. The positive credit is also based on attendance at the classes (an excuse of the absence is obtained on the basis of their medical certificate or other document). During the semester at least one written test is to be done based on the material discussed during the classes; form and timing of tests - to be agreed with the students during the course.
