Short description:

The course presents the relations between architecture and design and their mutual influence since the late 19th century up to this day.

Full description:

The course presents the relations between architecture and design and their mutual influence since the late 19th century up to this day. It will touch upon the question of the global concept linking architecture and design since the emergence of the British Arts and Crafts movement. The term of the global artwork will be explained in the context of the Vienna Workshops, de Stijl and the Bauhaus. The class will present matters of modernism, sustainable design, ecology, futurism, historic architecture, and mid-century modern in the context of relations between architecture and interior design. The marriage of architecture and design will also be presented through commercial spaces such as hotels, shops and offices. The course will end with the insight into the contemporary state of the architecture-design relation and its possible ways of development.
