Short description:

Course level: intermediate

Course aims:

Understanding contemporary theatre languages considering historical changes of conventions and the theatre poetics; obtaining the skill of analysing stage works;

using the analysis of the play as an element of reading its meaning and the base for its interpretation; ability to recognize contemporary ways of theatre communication; obtaining the knowledge about contemporary theatre criticism; acquiring the skill of writing about the theatre, the instruments of reviews and theatre criticism in Poland; obtaining the skill of reading the theatre as an expression of contemporary culture.

Prerequisites:

The student is supposed to know basic issues of the knowledge about the theatre.

Course content:

The analysis of the stage work - description of individual elements of the performance and presenting its synthetic meaning. Contemporary theatre conventions considering their historical changes. A synthesis of the performance in the theatre - an analysis of modern means of expression (music, art, acting, costumes, literature) and their coexistence in the performance. How to read the meaning of the stage work.

Theatre as an important element of cultural discourse. Theatre life - criticism (reviews), conventions, legends - and its influence on the reception of the stage art. Poetics and characteristics of theatre reviews. Description of the performance as a form of theatre records and a testimony of the audience reception.

Methods of assessment: to receive credit: an essay with a positive mark.

- know the basic terminology related to cultural anthropology

- know topics and problems specific for cultural anthropology

- have basic knowledge on major paradigms and attachments of cultural anthropology

- understand the scope of the knowledge s/he has apprehended and the need for a life-long learning

- can use different databases for searching readings specific for cultural anthropology

- can name cultural phenomenon, and use proper methods to anaile it by comparing,

- can read and analize texts of culture,

- know how participate in culture and know why ist neccesary.

ECTS - 2 points

30 h - participation in classes

15 h - participation in common theatrical performances

5 h - reading the litterature

2,5 h - writting diseratations.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Essay.

Bardzo dobry – student knows modern conventions od theatre, he can adjust method of analyzis to the theatrical perfomrance and compare it with other textes of culture. He can write text in every convention of writing about theatre.

Dobry - student knows modern conventions od theatre, he can compare theatrical performance with other textes of culture. He can write text in every convention of writing about theatre.

Dostateczny – student knows modern conventions od theatre. He can write text in every convention of writing about theatre.

Niedostateczny - student don't knows modern conventions od theatre, he can't adjust method of analyzis to the theatrical perfomrance and compare it with other textes of culture. He can't write text in every convention of writing about theatre.
