Short description:

Basic

Presenting students with the beginnings of canon law, its formation and development in the Church. Evolution and changes in the norms of canon law throughout the history of the Church. Presentation of the church legislation included in the 1917 Code of Canon Law and analysis of the norms of canon law after the II Vatican Council and the impact of the council resolutions upon the shape of the canon law norms included in the 1983 Code of Canon Law. Presentation of the history of canon law in Poland, sources to learn this law upon which canon law shaped and developed, as well as presenting the oldest classics of the canon law literature, canon law educational and scientific centres and first of all forming, development and the meaning of the synodical legislation in Poland.

The student should know basic terms and rules of canon law and in particular ones regarding the history of canon law and the history of canon law in Poland

Full description:

Work with texts of old collections of canon law, e.g. Corpus Iuris Canonici, the old and new CCL, discussing cases of old and current canon law, analysing resolutions of the plenary synod and diocese synods. Discussing and presenting evolution of canon law norms. The classes shall take two hours a week, that is thirty hours per semester.

Knowledge:

K_W01 - student knows the basic concepts of what is canon law and its meaning and contribution to the life and work of the Church and is aware of the specificity of methodological and methodological canon law;

K_W04 - student has an established knowledge of the formation of canon law in the Church in various collections starting with the Decree of Gracjan, the Council of Trent, through the Corpus Iuris Caninici. The Code of Canon Law of 1917, the Second Vatican Council, and the Code of Canon Law of 1983.

K_W05 - student has knowledge about the most important institutes of canon law that have arisen, formed and function in universal canon law and particular Polish law

Skills:

K_U03 - student is able to identify, describe and analyze the major institutions of canon law in historical terms

K_U05 student formulates in law and in writing institutions of canon law and homosexuality in the history of universal canon law and the history of canon law in Poland

K_U07 - student finds and uses sources of information on the history of canon law and the history of canon law in Polscer, its development and evolution of its norms.

K_K01 - a student can plan and organize individual work aimed at fulfilling a research goal and assimilating the content of the universal history of canon law and the history of canon law in Poland

K_K03 - a student actively and creatively engages in the course of his or her classes taking part in discussions, formulating their own speeches and constructive critical remarks.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The student should be present and active during classes. If absent, they should excuse themselves and are only allowed to miss three times a semester. Within classes, each student shall be obliged to present a thesis plan, systematically written thesis with ready sections (chapters). Students should progress with their thesis.
