ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 6.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Preliminary Requirements:

Basic knowledge of chemistry at high school level.

Short description:

Classes cover basic knowledge of general, inorganic and organic chemistry. It is also planned to introduce elements of physical, coordination and nuclear chemistry. It is important for students to know the names and symbols of the chemical elements of the main groups and the common elements of the transition groups (blocks s, p, and d).

The classes are compulsory, the teacher allows two absences from classes. Applies to both lectures and tutorials.

Full description:

1. The role of chemistry in the modern world, basic chemical concepts.

2. Atoms, molecules and ions. Electronic structure of the atom and the periodic table of elements.

3. Elements of the main groups.

4. Chemical bonds. Molecular geometry and bond theory.

5. Reactions in aqueous solutions.

6. Gases, liquids and solids.

7. Properties of solutions.

8. Thermochemistry.

9. Chemical kinetics.

10. Chemical equilibria. Acid-base equilibria. Equilibria in water solutions.

11. Nuclear chemistry.

12. Hydrocarbons and their derivatives.

13. Alcohols and phenols, aldehydes, carboxylic acids, esters.

14. Amines and amides.

15. Hydroxy acids, amino acids, proteins, sugars.

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

Knowledge:

knows what the methodology of experimental research is about

knows the basic terminology, nomenclature, customary conventions and units used in chemistry

knows the properties of various states of matter and the theories used to describe them

has general knowledge of chemistry

Social competences:

formulates questions to deepen one's understanding of a given topic or to find missing elements of reasoning

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Final rating x is determined based on the value of:

st (w) = 5, if 4.5 <w; st (w) = 4.5, if 4.25 <w ≤ 4.5; st (w) = 4, if 3.75 <w ≤ 4.25; st (w) = 3.5, if 3.25 <w ≤ 3.75; st (w) = 3, if 2.75 <w ≤ 3.25; st (w) = 2, if w ≤ 2.75

and on the basis of the following rule:

● if each of the final marks for related activities is positive and their average is y, then x is determined by the formula x = st ((y + z) / 2), where z is the weighted average of the assessments carried out in which the weightings examinations are 2, and the grades from other forms of verification are equal to 1

● if at least one final grade of related activities is 2 or nzal, then x = 2
