  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

Short description:

This class discusses the key stages of organising temporary exhibitions and the problems an exhibition curator/organiser may face.

Full description:

This class discusses the key stages of organising temporary exhibitions and the problems an exhibition curator/organiser may face. The presenter discusses the logistics of concurrently - organising exhibitions, talks about content issues, how to conduct searches and determine the theme of the exhibition, selected legal issues and those related to budget construction.

The stages of acquiring artworks, transporting them, working with the set designer, etc., are discussed, while at the same time the problems of editing the catalogue and other publications, creating an information system, selected means of promoting the exhibition, etc., are also discussed.

Based on the sample problems of organising exhibitions, the student is to discuss two exhibitions of his/her choice and try to assess (together with the lecturer and with other students) to what extent the authors of these exhibitions have fulfilled their tasks.

ZDK2_W08 - Has an in-depth knowledge of contemporary museology and cultural institutions and is familiar with contemporary cultural life.

ZDK2_W10 - Has in-depth knowledge of selected systems of norms and rules

framework of protection and management of cultural heritage in Poland.

ZDK2_W15 - Has a structured, in-depth knowledge, including the distinguishing features of

of individual architectural styles their chronological sequence,

and principles of their chronological development, knows the basic

materials and construction techniques used in the past from

antiquity to modern times.

ZDK2_U07 - Has the ability to argue substantively, using own views and those of other authors, formulate conclusions and create synthetic summaries.

ZDK2_U09 - Is able to communicate using a variety of communication channels and techniques with specialists in the field of cultural heritage management and related fields of science and disciplines as well as non-specialists, in Polish and English, and to popularise knowledge of the humanities and cultural products and its institutions.

ZDK2_U17 - Can popularly present complex facts in the field of historic preservation and conservation using a variety of channels and communication techniques.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Students develop and deliver presentations on a topic agreed in advance with the instructor.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the most important exhibition strategies and to present different forms of cultural heritage representation in museums.

The course will discuss the most important stages of organising temporary exhibitions and the problems that a curator/exhibition organiser may face.

Full description:

The class discusses the most important stages of organising temporary exhibitions and the problems that a curator/exhibition organiser may face. The lecturer discusses the logistics of simultaneous - organisation of exhibitions, talks about substantive issues, ways of conducting searches and defining the theme of an exhibition, selected legal issues and issues related to budgeting.

The stages of acquiring works of art, their transport, cooperation with the set designer, etc. are discussed, while at the same time problems related to editing the catalogue and other publications, creating an information system, selected means of promoting the exhibition, etc. are also discussed.
