Preliminary Requirements:

Advanced knowledge of human structure and physiology, with particular emphasis on the speech apparatus. Knowledge of child developmental disorders. Knowledge of human developmental rules from birth to old age.

Short description:

The presented knowledge concerns primarily the development of human communication from the embryonic state through articulation and speaking disorders of a child, then an adult (including ankyloglossia, cleft speech, aphasia, dysphagia, head and neck cancer) to the speech and speaking properties of patients aged seniors (senior speech therapy).

Full description:

The subject aims to show the enormous role of combining knowledge from the field of humanities and biological and medical sciences in research on language, speech and communication at various stages of human life.

The presented knowledge concerns primarily the development of human communication from the embryonic state through articulation and speaking disorders of a child, then an adult (including ankyloglossia, cleft speech, aphasia, dysphagia, head and neck cancer) to the speech and speaking properties of patients aged seniors (senior speech therapy).

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

The student knows the anatomical and physiological basis of human speech development and is able to discuss it. The student knows what connections selected developmental disorders have with speech development. The student knows the importance of head and neck diseases, including cancer, for the area of verbal speech. The student knows the importance of the aging process for the area of verbal speech. The student is able to refer to issues discussing the importance of subsequent developmental states, selected developmental disorders and diseases for the development and9 shaping of verbal speech.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment of attendance at classes, student's current activity, preparation for classes, participation in the discussion. Assessment of the work prepared and presented by the student.
