Short description:

Vocational guidance in the school

The purpose of the subject is, among others, to familiarize students with the functioning of the national system of career orientation and vocational guidance (counselling), types of vocational guidance and its determinants; teach students how to analyse the European labour market and engage them on developing their vocational guidance workshop.

Vocational guidance in the school and non-school systems 2014/2015

Scope of subjects:

1. Vocational guidance and related terms. Main purposes of vocational guidance – introduction to the problem;

2. The system of career orientation and vocational guidance (counselling) in Poland;

3. Aims, methods and tools used by a vocational advisor at school – theory vs. practice;

4. Functioning of vocational guidance at non-school institutions;

5. Vocational guidance in school and non-school systems of other EU countries;

6. Challenges faced by modern vocational advisors (vocational guidance vs. interculturality, flexibility of labour market).

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

Vocational guidance in the school and non-school systems 2014/2015

Is familiar with general theories of upbringing, learning and teaching; understands various factors determining these processes; knows theories and models of professional development profiled onto their practical use when working with the client (planning, designing and implementation of life-long professional career development programs).

Has general knowledge about the structure and functions of the education system – its purposes, legislation, organization and the functioning of various educational, upbringing, therapeutic and supportive institutions. He/she is capable of addressing clients to particular training centers, collaboration with pension institutes, advising in business matters, collaboration with local-government and non-government institutions following the program of continuous education.

Is capable of acquiring knowledge on his/her own and develop professional abilities with the use of various sources (both in the native and a foreign language) and modern technologies (ICT); he/she can make use of information technology to update and exchange professional and educational information.

Is able to communicate precisely and coherently (in speaking and in writing) about selected problems concerning pedagogy (while referring to various theoretical sources and taking advantage of the legacy of pedagogy and other disciplines). He/she is able to diagnose and analyse the labour market in Poland, the European Union and the world.

Is convinced about the sense, value and need of undertaking pedagogical activities in social environments; is ready to take up professional challenges; is active and takes every effort to realize individual and collaborative professional activities in terms of vocational guidance and continuous education.

Is prepared for active participation in groups, organizations and institutions which take up pedagogical challenges; he/she is ready to communicate with people who specialize and do not specialize in specific subject-matters; is ready do cooperate with labour market institutions – governments, companies, education centers and head-hunting agencies.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Vocational guidance in the school and non-school systems 2017/2016

Plenary discussion, work in working groups and individual analysis and interpretation of source material with the use of suitable didactic measures: literature, multimedia presentations.
