The aim of the course is to show the basic institutions of the Roman Republic according to legal and literary sources.

Introductory remarks – The beginnings of the Republic – The struggle for political rights of the plebs – The balance of the republican system – People’s Assemblies – Senate – Magistrates – Assemblies of the plebs and the tribunes – The rights of the Roman citizens – Italy and provinces – The fall of the Republic – Principate and its republican roots
