Short description:

The subject is to familiarize students with the concepts and institutions related to the formation and creation of law in theoretical terms and on the example of selected legal systems. During the course, students will learn the grid of terms related to legislation in English. They will discuss the principles of law-making and the choice of specific legislative solutions, as well as what determines the quality of the law being made.

Full description:

The content of the subject is law-making, especially in theoretical terms. During the course, students learn the basic terminology related to the creation of law in language. They will learn about the basic methods of creating law, as well as the principles of correct legislation. They will solve legislative dilemmas based on the learned principles. They will learn to participate in the debate on the quality of the law.

It will be given during classes on a regular basis.

Learning outcomes:

1. In terms of the learning effect with the symbol PR_W02 (the student knows and understands the sources and nature of the standards of public / private / international law, in the historical and contemporary aspect in relation to the subjects included in the study program), the student:

EU1: knows English definitions of terms related to the principles of lawmaking;

EU2: lists and characterizes the rules related to lawmaking resulting from legal provisions, jurisprudence and legal doctrine.

2. In terms of the learning effect with the symbol PR_U02 (the student is able to use theoretical knowledge in the field of public / private / international law to describe, analyze and solve specific legal matters), the student:

EU3: can explain the differences in different legal systems for the functioning of society and the state and the impact of given methods of law-making on the shape of the state system and the status of an individual in the state

EU4: solve problems related to the legality of the law according to the criterion of the principles of proper legislation.

3. In terms of the learning effect with the symbol PR_U07 (the student is able to design and create various written works in Polish and a foreign language, used in various areas of public / private / international law, including pleadings and analyzes and interpretations of specific legal issues in a dogmatic approach , comparative, historical), student

EU5: can prepare a statement on the functioning of the rules of legislation in practice on the example of a given legislative problem.

4. In terms of the learning effect with the symbol PR_U08 (the student is able to prepare a basic draft of a normative act and an act of application of law, relating to public / private / international law, in the field of subjects included in the study program, using, if necessary, modern information technologies), student

Description of ECTS

Student workload 8 ECTS (25h * 8 ECTS = 200h), assuming that 1 ECTS point equals 25h of student workload.

1. participation in classes: 30h

2. reading of the selected literature: 40 h

3. homework solving: 30h

4. preparation for the debate: 20 h

5. preparation for the exam, including searching for materials: 80 h

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment is carried out through synchronous contact on the MS Teams platform and behavioral assessment, including participation in the debate, by completing tasks posted on the MS Teams platform, and through a written exam consisting of test and descriptive tasks conducted through the MS Teams platform.

Assessment methods:

The implementation of the knowledge effects, i.e. those relating to the PR_W02 symbol, is assessed by:

- Oral answer; assessment of participation in the discussion, homework done; written exam.

The implementation of skill outcomes is assessed by:

- in relation to the directional effect with the symbol PR_U02 - oral answer; assessment of participation in the discussion, homework done; written exam.

- in relation to the directional effect with the symbol PR_U07 - homework done; written exam.

- in relation to the directional effect with the symbol PR_U08 - completed homework.

- in relation to the directional effect with the symbol PR_U09 - oral answer; assessment of participation in the discussion.

The implementation of the effects on social competences is assessed through:

- knows well in English terms related to the principles of creating law. Creates definitions of terms in English;
