Course provides an introduction to issues related to the field of geodesy and cartography in the range corresponding to the needs of the modern archaeologist. Issues to be covered include both types and map reading, measuring and surveying equipment, as well as issues relating to the concept of the frontiers and the borders or mapping imaginary worlds. Part of the course is practical (eg, work with basic surveying equipment).

Course provides an introduction to issues related to the field of geodesy and cartography in the range corresponding to the needs of the modern archaeologist. Issues to be covered include both types and map reading, measuring and surveying equipment, as well as issues relating to the concept of the frontiers and the borders or mapping imaginary worlds. Part of the course is practical (eg, work with basic surveying equipment).

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment: 1. active participation in classes (allowed are two absences, the third - even justified, requires additional test) 2. practical work in groups, that involved the creation of map in CAD/GIS environment and based on students' own field survey

Grade 2 (insufficient) student does not have the basic knowledge, skills and competences in the field of the basics of surveying and mapping.

Grade 3 (sufficient), student has a basic knowledge, skills and competencies in the above range

Grade 4 (good) has particular knowledge, skills and competencies in the above range and correctly understands issues of the basics of surveying and mapping, is able to formulate opinions and discuss a given topic

Grade 5 (very good), the student moves freely within the above mentioned areas.
