The aim of the lectures is to acquaint students with the selected events from history of the Catholic Church.

Basic knowledge of common history.

Full description:

1. The Church of the first centuries. The beginnings of missionary activity.

2. The persecution of Christians. Breakthrough Constantine.

3. ecumenical Councils - doctrinal and disciplinary problems.

4. The development of monasticism - its role in the history of the Church and the world.

5. Christianization of the Slavs. Baptism Polish, the development of church organization on Polish soil.

6. Medieval christianitas. Models of power relations secular and religious.

7. The role of the Church in the development of education (universities) and culture.

8. The great divisions in the Church. Reformation and Counter-Reformation.

9. Worldwide expansion of Christianity.

10. The Church against the modern liberation movements.

11. modernist crisis. Attempts to inner renewal and reunification of the Church in the twentieth century

12. The system of repression against the Church in times of totalitarianism - fascism and communism.

13. The situation of the Church in the communist era.

14. A turning point of Vatican II.

15. The global reach of Christianity. Problems of Christian culture in Third World countries.

Essay on a selected topic in the history of the Church, oral exam.
