COURSE CONTENT

1.The place of Latin in the family of languages

2.Principles of reading Latin (sounds and letters, stress)

3.Declension of nouns, adjectives, pronouns, numerals, participles

4.Conjugations of verbs for person, tense, and voice

5.Basic knowledge about uninflected parts of speech

6.Syntax

7.Grammatical structures – ACI, abl. Absolutus, supinum, and the like

8.Subordinate clauses

9.Rome in ancient times (history, territory, offices)

ASSESSMENT

Continuous assessment on the basis of class attendance (no more than two unjustified absences in a semester), active participation, preparation for classes; a written test at the end of the summer semester, and an exam at the end of the course
