Short description:

During this lecture there will be discussed the issues connected with formation of catechists in the light of contemporary documents of the church and catechetical and didactic literature. A catechist is a key person in the catechetical act of communication in the basic dimension. The relation between a catechist and a recipient of catechesis as well as the relation between the catechist and Christ depends on the catechist’s personality and permanent formation.

1. Documents of the universal and particularistic church about the formation of catechists.

2. Community of the church as a place of the formation of catechists.

3. The identity of a catechetical formation.

4. The characteristics of a catechist’s spirituality.

5. The stages of the catechetical formation.

6. The biblical dimension of a catechist’s formation.

7. The ecclesial dimension of a catechist’s formation.

8. The liturgical, existential and cultural dimension of a catechist’s formation.

9. A permanent formation of a catechist in the scope of didactic competences.

10. A permanent formation of a catechist in the scope of educational competences.

11. A catechist’s education in modern, audio-visual technology field.

12. Ecclesial institutions responsible for the catechists’ formation.

13. The educational institutions responsible for the catechists’ formation.

14.The idea of a perfect catechist based on a questionnaire survey among young people.

In the scope of one's knowledge (TMA_W 07) a student participating in the lectures:

1. characterizes an identity of a contemporary catechist.

2. discusses dimensions of the theological formation of a catechist.

As regards to the abilities (TMA_U01) he:

3. presents and explains recommendations about the catechists’ formation, included in the church documentations.

4. explains the need for the catechists’ didactic and educational formation.

5. analyzes tasks of the institutions responsible for the catechists’ formation.

in social competence (TMA_K05):

6. justifies the need for permanent personal catechists’ formation.

ECTS:

Active participation in lectures: 30 h

Self – study based on documents and analysis: 40 h

Consultations: 20 h

Total: 90 h = 3 ECTS

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Effect of education 1. The student characterizes an identity of a contemporary catechist.

- for mark D (fail): he is unable to define features describing the identity of a catechist;

- for mark C (pass): he is able to characterize features describing the identity of a catechist;

- for mark B (pass): he characterizes the identity of a catechist in detail;

- for mark A (pass): he defines the identity of a catechist in detail as well as he analyzes today’s threats against this background.

Effect of education 2. The student discusses dimensions of the theological formation of a catechist.

- for mark D (fail): he isn't able to give at least three basic dimensions of the theological formation of a catechist;

- for mark C (pass): he gives and introduces at least three basic dimensions of the theological formation of a catechist;

- for mark B (pass): he presents assumptions of all dimensions of the theological formation of a catechist;

- for mark A (pass): he presents assumptions of all dimensions of the theological formation of a catechist and analyzes them with reference to the practice.

Effect of education 3. The student presents and explains recommendations about the catechists’ formation, included in the church documentations.

- for mark D (fail): he isn't able to mention documents of the church discussing the formation of a catechist;

- for mark C (pass): he is able to mention documents of the church discussing the formation of a catechist and talks about its assumptions based on the example of a chosen document;

- for mark B (pass): he presents and introduces the documents of the church about the catechists’ formation and discusses the evolution of thoughts of the church;

- for mark A (pass): he precisely presents and introduces the documents of the church about the catechists’ formation, discusses the evolution of thoughts of the church and draws practical conclusions.

Effect of education 4. The student explains the need for the catechists’ didactic and educational formation.

- for mark D (fail): he isn't able to describe basic didactic and educational competences of a catechist;

- for mark C (pass): he presents basic didactic and educational competences of a catechist;

- for mark B (pass): he talks about basic didactic and educational competences of a catechist as well as discusses the documents of education law concerning the in-service training of teachers;

- for mark A (pass): he talks about basic didactic and educational competences of a catechist, discusses the documents of education law concerning the in-service training of teachers as well as justifies the need for the permanent formation of catechists.

Effect of education 5. The student analyzes tasks of the institutions responsible for the catechists’ formation.

- for mark D (fail): he isn't able to indicate any institution responsible for the formation of catechists;

- for mark C (pass): he specifies the institution responsible for the formation of catechists;

- for mark B (pass): he discusses the activity of the institutions responsible for the formation of catechists;

- for mark A (pass): he precisely discusses the activity of the institutions responsible for the formation of catechists, determines preferred dimensions of catechists’ formation in these institutions.

Effect of education 6. The student justifies the need for permanent personal catechists’ formation.

- for mark D (fail): he isn't able to show the basic personality traits of a catechist essential in his work;

- for mark C (pass): he discusses the basic personality traits of a catechist essential in his work;

- for mark B (pass): he indicates ways of the personal formation of a catechist;

- for mark A (pass): he analyzes ways of the personal formation of a catechist, justifies the need of self -motivation in the process of the personal formation and shows its influence on the effectiveness of catechist’s work.

To get a positive assessment of the subject it is necessary to achieve all planned learning outcomes.

A positive assessment of the subject (grade A,B,C) results from the number of points obtained from:

- class attendance: C - from 60%; B – between 60-95 %, A – between 95-100 %;

- mastering knowledge from lectures, additional literature and documents;

- examination: C- plus C -50-60 %, B - plus B 60-85 %, A - 85-100 %.
