Short description:

The aim of the lecture is to present religion as a social phenomenon, as a special subject of study in sociology, in contrast to the theological or religioznawczego recognized religion.

Full description:

The aim of the lecture is to present religion as a social phenomenon, as a special subject of study in sociology, in contrast to the theological or religioznawczego recognized religion. Will be presented an overview of the key concepts of religion and contemporary classics of sociology major sociological theories of religion. We will review the key terms and concepts of sociology of religion (like types of religious organizations, the sacred and the profane). Will be presented concepts of secularization and desacralization of religion in society (post) modern. Religion is also shown as an empirical reality, which is the subject of sociological research; will be presented the results of quantitative and qualitative research on Polish religiousness both traditional period of transformation of social-political, and recent times.

EK 1 - The student has a basic knowledge about the main types of religious organizations, assimilated sociological understanding of religion as a social institution, knows the social functions of religion (DL_W13)

EK 2 - The student understands the concept of religion, knows sociological indicators of this phenomenon and its research methods (DL_W13)

Assessment methods:

For the pass mark (dst) it is necessary to obtain 51% of the test.

Persons who will want to receive a grade higher than pass (dst) should meet two conditions:

1. attendance at 90% of classes (not including absences missed) confirmed on the student's letter)

2. getting the satisfactory test from the test

or

writing a dissertation according to the following requirements:

- will be submitted up to two weeks after the announcement of the test results;

- will be written for min. 10,000 characters with spaces;

- it will contain three elements: a) theoretical or legal assumptions, b) empirical justification, c) own conclusions

- the topic will cover one of the following:

a) The importance of religion in the Polish social reality;

b) Religion in the life of Polish youth;

c) Faces of Polish secularization;

d) The specificity of Polish religiosity;

e) The future of religion in Poland.

Grade 2 - student can not define the main types of religious organizations, he can not give the definition of religion as a social institution, he can not name the most important social functions of religion

Grade 3 - the student distinguishes and characterizes at the elementary level the main types of religious organizations, lists the basic features of religion as a social institution, lists the most important social functions of religion

The grade 4 - student distinguishes and well characterizes the main types of religious organizations, well characterized by religion as a social institution, well describes the social functions of religion

Grade 5 - the student distinguishes and well characterizes the main types of religious organizations, well characterized by religion as a social institution, exhaustively describes the social functions of religion, assigning them to selected theoreticians of sociology of religion

Grade 2 - Student does not distinguish between the terms "religion" and "religiosity", does not know the sociological sense of the concept of religiosity, does not know the methods of his research

Grade 3 - The student knows the sociological sense of the concept of religiosity, is able to list his chosen indicators, lists and describes the most important features of the basic methods of studying religiosity

Grade 4 - The student knows the sociological sense of the concept of religiosity, can list and describe well most of his indicators, well characterized by the quantitative and qualitative methods of his research

Grade 5 - Student perfectly explains the sociological sense of the concept of religiosity, name and describe its indicators very well, very well characterizes the quantitative and qualitative methods of his research, knows Polish schools of research on religiosity
