Classes provide a comprehensive introduction to the historical and cultural context of the New Testament.

Full description:

Classes will include the following thematic blocks:

1. History and political geography of the Mediterranean Basin: from Persian to Roman times.

2. Administration of the Imperium Romanum.

3. Social structure of the inhabitants of the Roman empire, social and family relations, social morality, Roman law, economy.

4. Clubs and associations.

5. Literature, art, education, entertainment.

6. Early Christianity and religions of the Mediterranean world of that time.

7. Early Christianity and Greco-Hellenistic philosophy.

8. Perception of the first Christians by the pagan world and the reasons for hostility towards them.

EK 1: The student gains a thorough knowledge of the historical and social context of the New Testament.

EK 2: Based on the acquired knowledge, the student develops the ability to comprehensively and independently interpret historical sources and use the literature on the subject.

EK 3: Student has the habit of deepening his knowledge and looking for inspiration in various fields.

ECTS credits:

Participation in lectures: 30 hours. = 1 ECTS

Written work: 30 hours = 1 ECTS

Personal study and preparation for the oral exam: 60 hours. = 2 ECTS

Total: 4 ECTS

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The final grade will be the result of the written work that the student will write on the given topic and the oral exam.
