Goal of subject: The student should get to know relations to the Bible broad spectrum of old and contemporary art – topics, figures, events, influence of inspirational text on artistic work of artists Preliminary requirements: knowledge of bases of history and the biblical culture |

1. The Bible about the art. Art in Old and New Testament. 2. Prohibition of making of images and attempts of breaking him (iconoclasm; apology of picture). 3. Esthetics in Old and New Testament. 4. Art of early Christianity - iconography 5. Iconography of the Old Testament (choice of elements). a. iconography of Genesis; b. David and Salomon; c. history of Israel and his heroes; d. sages and prophets. 6. Iconography of the New Testament (choice of elements). a. Christmas; b. public activity of Jesus; c. miracles and signs Jesus; d. wonders and signs of Jesus; e. The Resurrection; 7. Evangelists and their symbols. The symbolism and symbols in the Bible. 8. “Biblia pauperum” 9. Pictures of God. Iconography of the Holy Trinity. 10. After Easter pictures of Jesus; problem of Turin shroud and “mandylion”. 11. Pictures of Mary (Our Lady). 12. Pictures of angels. |

Students learn a broad spectrum of references to the Bible in old and contemporary art (i.e. themes, characters, events etc.); the influence of the inspired text on artistic work; understand the form and content of a religious work. |
