Course level: Basic. Objectives: The main objective is to introduce history, theology and the ways to celebrate the Sacraments. Range of the materials force us to make some shortcuts but at the same time we have to stress the pastoral dimension of the problem. The analysis of particular problems is done accordingly to the rules of the liturgical books. Preliminary Requirements: The students should have at least the basic knowledge about the sacraments and liturgics. |

Course content: 1.The Sacraments - general information. Historical dimension. The Sacrament as a liturgical event. 2.Baptism as a first sacrament of Initiation. The theology and history of different form of granting the sacrament. 3.Baptism of children and adults - the rites analysis. 4.Confirmation. The theological content of the Sacrament, shaping the liturgy. 5.Confirmation rites. 6.The Eucharist as the highest initiation. Shaping the mass liturgy. Different form of the Holy Mass. 7.The analysis of particular parts of mass liturgy. 8.The cult of the Eucharist beyond the mass. 9.The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation - theology and the history of liturgy. 10.Liturgy of the Sacrament of penance according to Ordo paenitentie. 11.The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick - theology,and history of celebration. 12.The Sacrament of Holy Orders - theological content and the history of celebration. 13.The analysis of individual elements of ordination celebration. 14.Marriage - theology and history of liturgy. The marriage in other churches. 15.The celebration of marriage.Wedding anniversaries. Methods of assessment: The oral examination at the end of semestr covers the material from the lecture and the content of obligatory reading. |
