  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Level of the course: basic, master degree part-time studies

Objectives of the course:

1. to familiarize students with the basic concepts of the Catholic social teaching in the historical and theological perspective and to show the contemporary context of moral debate on social issues

2. to give students the basic themes: man in society; social virtues: love, justice, truth, and freedom; man and the economy; life and environment; safety; peace; ecology; culture; Christianity as a force shaping the society.

3. to encourage the personal search for knowledge on the above topics.

4. Bringing awareness of one's commitment to the proper social and moral formation.

Prerequisites:

Basic knowledge of Catholic social teaching, the knowledge of basic concepts, general knowledge of social science.

Course contents:

Key issues of the Catholic Church's social doctrine: man in society, social virtues, so called the John quadrilateral (PT): love, justice, truth, and freedom; man and the economy; life and environment; safety, peace, ecology, culture, Christianity as a force shaping the society, social science from a Christian perspective.

Assessment methods:

to receive the credit - an essay covering the issues of the Catholic social teaching; oral substantive summary of the lectures by the student taking about 15 minutes per person; lecture credit unrated.
