Level of course: Basic Objectives of the course: Having completed the course, the student is required to be able to: - define the term “the liturgy”, indicate and discuss the instruction of the Church (in the basic documents) on the liturgy, liturgical congregation, participation in the liturgy, and its celebration; - understand the meaning of symbol in the liturgy and be able to explain (also at the level of liturgical catechesis) the symbolism of Christian rites, especially in the Mass; - be familiar with the documents containing liturgical laws, as well as with the books used in the celebration of the liturgy; - possess general ability to use the acquired knowledge in potential liturgical catechesis. Prerequisites: The student is required to be familiar with basic terms used in dogmatic and fundamental theology, biblical studies, the history of the Church, as well as the process of the celebration of the Mass. |

Course contents: The course covers two thematic scopes: 1. Issues concerning the understanding of the Church liturgy, its theology, celebration, symbolism, and liturgical laws, as well as the participation in liturgy. 2. Presentation of rites in the Holy Mass – explanation of the symbolism and theology of individual parts of the Mass, actions, signs and prayers. Assessment methods: Oral exam at the end of the course; covering both the presented material and reading assignments. Before the exam students receive a list of points required on the exam in the form of theses. The exam takes place in the course of two days, on a date convenient to the students. |
