objectives of the course:

The objective of the course is to develop linguistic competence and achieve level B1 or B2 in the following skills: reading, speaking, listening, writing, vocabulary and grammar. Moreover, the course aims at teaching students some prayers, reading the Bible and selected religious texts in English.

prerequisites:

Required level of English for students who start the course: A2 ( pre- intermediate) or B1 ( intermediate).

course contents:

level A2/B1:

1.Revision of tenses: present simple and continuous, present perfect, simple past, future: going to and present continuous;relative clauses.

2.Agreeing and disagreeing ( so do I/ neither do I, I do/ I don’t etc.)

3.Word building.

4.Speaking: hobbies, music, food, personality.

5.Prayers: God’s Prayer, Hail Mary, the Creed.

6.Reading selected texts from the Bible.

7.The Way of Cross: prayers and meditations from the Way of Cross in Colosseum in 2005.

8.The life of John Paul II.

level B1/B2:

1.The use of tenses: present simple and continuous, present perfect and simple past, future: going to and will; the passive vice, phrasal verbs, relative clauses.

2.Word building.

3.Speaking: friendship, music ( the life and works of W.A. Mozart ), family and bringing up children, mass media, home.

4.Prayers: God’s Prayer, Hail Mary, the Creed.

5.Reading selected texts from the Bible.

6.The Way of Cross: prayers and meditations from the Way of Cross in Colosseum in 2005.

7.The life of John Paul II.

assessment methods:

Tests, regular grading, presentations.
