Type of the course: Optional English Language Course for the first year of study at the Major Seminary of the Diocese of Lomza.

Level of the course: middle.

Purposes of the course: The aim of the course is to provided the student with a thorough working knowledge of the English Language, so that he is able to deal with most situations with which he may come into contact with confidence and ease. The course sets out to advance the student’s knowledge and skills in comprehension and oral work and to develop his reading and written abilities at an advanced level.

1st Year: As students come from a variety of backgrounds,their abilities in using English vary considerably, the course aims to bring all the students to the same middle-advanced level of language skills.

Prerequisites:

There is a minimum entry require-ment for this course. Candidates must have success-fully completed the school ‘Matura’ programme, or must be able to demonstrate equivalent language ski

Contents of the course: Suggested Allocation of Time; Aural/Oral Procedure; Comprehension Questions, Extended Oral Exercises; Activities; Written Exercises; Homework: Additional Reading Material ; Additional Oral Practice; Additional Written Practice.

Teaching methods: Seminars and small group language activities. 2 hours per week; 15 weeks per semester; together comprising 60 hours during the whole year.

Evaluation methods: The course is evaluated by the continuous assessment of written assignments and by an oral examination at the end of each of the semesters. The final examina-tion for Third Year students is before an English Lan-guage Commission of which at least one member must be a native speaker or hold native-speakers status.
