Type and level of the course: Obligatory course for the students of the II year of studies in Major Seminary of the Dioces of Łomża. Basic level.

Purposes of the course: The purpose is to achieve a basic knowledge of the Hebrew language, its alphabet, transliteration, reading and basic principles of grammar (morphology and syntax) and learning the Hebrew way of thought formulation, the most important vocabulary, especially of an exegetical and theological importance.

Prerequisites: The course is of an introductory character. The specific character of the Hebrew language requires a special attention and thoroughness in learning the presented matter in the order of presentation.

Contents of the course: Learning the Hebrew alphabet, ability to transliterate texts, to read, learning the basic principles of grammar (morphology and syntax) and a certain range of vocabulary. The ability to use a dictionary in order to properly read Hebrew texts.

Learning methods: Language course, 15 hours.

Evaluation methods: During the course the students participate actively by writing, reading and transliterating Hebrew texts, which is constantly verified by the lecturer. At the end of semester there is an oral exam lasting 15 min.
