The objective of the course is giving information on the basic issues of the preservation of Church art monuments, and also: demonstrating the importance and extensiveness of issues concerning preservation of historical monuments so that priests, as potential investors of such works have a view into these complicated issues.

Prerequisites: Knowledge of Church art history.

Course contents:

Issues concerning multi-level preservation of monuments of Church art: the notions of monument, cultural value; present legislation of Church and State; the issue of cataloging; official conservator and conservator-executor; general information on knowledge of materials; preservation of Church architectural monuments, such as sculpture, painting, artistic craft and church furnishings; church surroundings; liturgical life of today in a monumental church; preservation of monuments as a pastoral issue.

Evaluation methods:

Written papers during the semester and a colloquium at the end of the semester.
