Type and level of the course: Obligatory for the students of III and IV year of studies in Major Seminary of the Dioces of Łomża. Intermediate level. Purposes of the course: The aim of the course is acquainting the students with the issues of the origins, authorship, time and circumstances of the writing of the Synoptic Gospels and with their basic theological content, in order to allow for the extracting from the richness of these Books for the preaching of the Good News of salvation. Prerequisites: The course presupposes the knowledge of basic information from the field of General Introduction to the Holy Scripture and of Biblical Greek. |

Contents of the course: Origin and meaning of the word "Gospel", the Synoptic problem and attempts at a solution, a short history of the interpretation of the Gospels, the process of the formation of the Gospels, a detailed introduction to each of the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) including the issues of authorship, time and place of writing, recipients, literary issues and structure, a synthetic presentation of the most important theological themes of each, a detailed exegesis of selected texts. Learning methods: Lecture, 30 hours. Evaluation methods: Oral final examination at the end of the semester, of a duration of 15 min., embracing the whole material of the course, supplemented by recommended reading. |
