Short description:

Type and level of the course: Obligatory course for the students of the II year of studies in Major Seminary of the Dioces of Łomża. Basic level.

Purposes of the course: The Purpose of the course is to acquaint the students with the Bible as a divine-human work, a source of faith and at the same time: a work of literature, and to prepare them to correctly receive its content. Getting to know the canon of the Bible, understanding the essence of biblical inspiration and the most important principles of biblical interpretation in order to help the students to read the message of the Word of God expressed "in a human way" (DV 12) in the most wholly manner possible.

Prerequisites: The subject is of an introductory character, so it does not call for detailed preliminary requirements. Assumed is the student's general knowledge of the Bible and the most essential theological issues.

Full description:

Contents of the course: The Program of the course embraces four main treatises: the Text of the Holy Scripture, Biblical Inspiration, the Canon of the Bible, Biblical Hermeneutics. Apart from these more detailed issues are also treated: OT and NT Apocrypha, the Writings of Qumran, Biblical Kerygmatics and Pastoral Proforistics.

Learning methods: Lecture, 15 hours.

Evaluation methods: In the Winter semester takes place only an evaluation without grade. The final exam takes place during the summer exam session and its time: 15 min. The condition for receiving credit for the course is the passing of an oral final exam embracing the whole of the material of the lectures, supplemented by additional reading of given literature. During the exam the student receives one question to present in detail, after which additional questions are asked.
