Short description:

Level of Course: Specialization

Objectives: The student after completion of the course is able to explain the essence of intellectual disability, to characterize cognitive functioning, social and emotional subjects with various degrees of intellectual disability. It can indicate the etiology of mental retardation and present the process of diagnosis. Student records the problems of organizing the process of education and therapeutic facilities for people with mental retardation.

Prerequisites: knowledge of theories of education and training, developmental psychology, pedagogy

Course contents:

The essence of mental retardation, the criteria for recognition. The classification of mental retardation. Etiology and diagnosis process. Cognitive functioning, social and emotional subjects with various degrees of disability. A child with intellectual disabilities in the home and school - educational aspects. Organization of educational and therapeutic process in institutions for persons with mental retardation.
