Basic knowledge of the development of theological reflection outside Europe.

Full description:

The lecture aims to present the main theological themes developed in Asia from the first centuries to the present day. We will first pay special attention to the ancient theologies developed in Asia (Judeo-Christian theology and the theologies of the Eastern Churches). We will then turn our attention to the problems of European theology of the time of the first modern missions (16th-19th centuries) presented in the Asian context. The final, and most extensive, part of the class will be focused on contemporary attempts to develop theological thought in specific Asian countries (especially India, China, Japan, and the Philippines) and the theological work of the Federation of Asian Bishops Conference (FABC). Some examples of non-Catholic (Christian) theological reflection will also be presented.
