Skrócony opis: |
In this series of lectures we are going to analyze the doctrine of elements which is an essential idea for Ancient Greek scientific and philosophical thinking. The Paradigm survived and influenced the development of scientific and philosophical thought for almost 2000 years. The elements are not only the key concept for Ancient Greek natural sciences which is responsible for basic ideas in biology, chemistry, thermodynamics, theories of motion in physics and cosmology but also forms a core structure for understanding human nature both physical and psychological. The whole science of Ancient Greek medicine and treatment of diseases is based on this understanding. However, treatment of physical body is based not on empirical observation and elimination of symptoms but on metaphysical concept of treatment of disorder of elements. |

Moreover, this concept stretches beyond the boundaries of any part of physical world and enters transcendental metaphysical realm where it is essential for understanding the order of Being itself. We will analyze the paradigm and its application in different sciences as well as its later reception in Renaissance and Modern Ages. |
