Short description:

The course "Psychology of myth and phantasm" introduces into the psychological dimension of myth as a cultural artifact and its subjective representation as a phantasm and presents methods of myth-analysis and myth-therapy.

Full description:

1. Terms and definitions: myth and phantasm.

2. Cultural and narrative psychology: culture, psychology, and myth as a way of understanding the world and people.

3. Homo mythicus - mythical identity, the myth-creating activity of a man.

4. Logos vs. mythos: two mind perspectives and categorial orders - discursive and narrative/mythical.

5. The presence and power of myth - traditional cultures and modern myths (eg. the myth of everlasting youth, Techne, Batman, the Lord of the Rings, Wiedźmin, Star Wars).

6. Classical conceptions of myth and phantasm: philosophy, history/archeology, cultural anthropology, sociology, literature studies, religious studies.

7. Psychological and psychoanalytical accounts of myth and phantasm.

8. Myth and mythical thinking as core ideas of anthropology and real psychology.

9. Myth- and phantasm-centric cultural psychology of E. Boesch.

10. Myth- and fantasm-analysis: the origins, conceptions, rules, methods, applications.

11. Connotational Analysis of E. Boesch as a qualitative method of analysis of the mythical micro experiences.

2. Differentiates conceptions of myth and phantasm present in social sciences.

3. Identifies the psychological dimension of myth.

4. Knows the rules and types of myth-analysis and can apply them.

5. Identifies different conceptions and methods of myth-therapy and the ways of application.

6. Critically notices the presence of myths in contemporary culture and their influence on the conditio humana.
