At the close of the course student will possess basic knowledge of early Attic drama with particular emphasis on Aeschylus. S/he will also be able to discuss some problems related to the individual character of Aeschylean drama, such as concept of justice, civic ideology, dramatic technique, character construction, religious dimension of tragic drama, etc. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Oral examination. Two questions: one concerning drama of choice, the other general issues 5: student capable of fluently discussing bothe general and specific issues with references to secondary literature not mentioned in the syllabus or handouts 4: student capable of discussing both general and specific issues but with bno references to anything beyond the basic literature 3. student capable to indicate chief traits of Aeschylean poetry with emphasis on the general. for 3.5/4.5 student displays some awareness of the existing academic works but no closer acquaintance with these |
