Skrócony opis: |
The aim of this course is to help Students master practical knowledge of the legal English in terms of speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension, with the emphasis placed on enhancing discourse competence (the ability to construct cohesive and coherent speeches and written texts). The course will focus on improving student’s English legal terminology, familiarizing students with the oral and written advocacy skills through analysis of various legal texts and improving students’ ability to make oral presentations and react to challenges from opponent. |

Learning outcomes: ability to analyse and evaluate legal text ability to express and justify one’s opinion on legal issues ability to draw conclusions based on reading material in English in an oral and written form ability to prepare speeches based on materials ECTS Points: 25 hrs = 1 point; 8 points in total 30 hrs – participation in classes 50 hrs – written assignments 60 hrs – readings 60 hrs – preparation for discussions and presentations |
Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
Methodology: Students are required to read the literature indicated next to the each class (books excerpts – both legal handbooks as well as novels, legal cases descriptions, articles, judgments etc.), which is discussed during the class. Based on the materials students prepare summaries, oral arguments and present those to the class as well as take part in moot court simulation. Assessment methods: - continuous assessment based on preparation for the lessons and active participation in class activities - assessment of contribution to substantive discussions - assessment of home written assignments Assessment criteria: - ability to create your own written statements - ability to create spoken statements and to interact in conversation - preparing a presentation - degree of mastering the legal terminology |
