Level: Basic – introductory. Aims: The aim of the course is to present the long history of ancient Greece and its relations with the Bible (both Old and New Testament). It focuses on the relationship between Greek and Hellenistic culture and ancient Israel (both in Palestine and in Jewish diaspora) and the possible influence Hellenistic culture had on the Bible. The lecture depicts also a history of Jewish diaspora in Hellenistic world in different historical periods and important fruits of its activities, like the oldest translation of the Bible – the Septuagint.
