Short description:

The phenomenon of false memory has been analysed within the psychology of memory for several decades, inspiring numerous experimental studies and theoretical inquiries. The lectures will discuss selected examples of memory distortions, whose research has led to an understanding of important mechanisms of memory functioning in humans.

Full description:

The main topics that will be discussed in the lectures are:

1. Main classifications of the kinds of memory errors.

2. Experimental research on false memory for associated stimuli.

3. False memory from the perspective of the fuzzy trace theory.

4. Cryptomnesia. The Moses illusion.

5. Hindsight bias.

6. Mere exposure effect. On the tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon.

7 Validity effect.

8. The misinformation effect and eyewitness memory.
