Short description:

The aim of the course is to learn about the functioning of a person in penitentiary isolation and in given social rehabilitation centers, psychological processes taking place in these units and centres. The context of help, support, social rehabilitation, juridical social work is important. The practical goal is to encourage people to work with prisoners, as well as with former prisoners and charges of social rehabilitation centers.

Assumptions and goals

The cognitive objectives of the subject are to learn penitentiary and social rehabilitation systems, the functioning of an inmate in isolation units, the functioning of juveniles in social rehabilitation centers, the principles and methods of social rehabilitation and social work. The basic educational goal of the subject is to teach the ability to establish communication with prisoners and charges of social rehabilitation centers in order to come to them with effective help. The educational aim of the subject is to motivate students to social rehabilitation, therapeutic, corrective and assistance work, to social work with prisoners and charges of social rehabilitation centers.

Program content:

1. Determination of social rehabilitation and juridical social work with an indication of psychological aspects.

2. The relationship between psychology and social rehabilitation and juridical social work.

3. From a criminological diagnosis to a social rehabilitation forecast.

4. Historical view of institutions isolating man.

5. Concepts of corrective and aid interactions towards the socially maladjusted.

6. Functions, principles, stages, methods of social rehabilitation.

7. Concepts, principles, social work client.

8. Prison subculture and the possibility of its permeation

9. The phenomenon of self-aggression and simulation in prison: self-aggression and prison subculture, psychological background of self-aggression and its types.

10. Self-aggression in social rehabilitation centres.

11. Mental agglutination in penitentiary units and social rehabilitation centers.

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

Knowledge - the student knows how to interpret the variability of behavior of people in penitentiary isolation and in social rehabilitation centers; - knows the psychological methods used for diagnosis in the case of prisoners and juveniles of social rehabilitation centers; - knows the methods of psychological intervention in the case of prisoners from a given category and in the case of juveniles of social rehabilitation centers; - knows the principles and methods of social rehabilitation interactions and interactions in the field of social work.

Skills - the student is able to choose methods for psychological research conducted in penitentiary units and social rehabilitation centers.

Competences - the student has competencies in the field of psychological assistance and crisis intervention carried out in the prison environment and among the charges of social rehabilitation centers.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Completion of the subject orally (verification interview): for the grade 3, basic knowledge of the material is required, for the grade good - detailed knowledge of the material, for the grade very good - the ability to transfer theoretical content to the level of penitentiary and social rehabilitation practice. Two absences from classes are allowed. Class activity is also taken into account in the assessment.
