  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

Full description:

The course introduces issues of Milanese culture through the lens of fashion, art and design, which have had a considerable impact on the perception of the city and its development. The reflections begin with the contemporary history of the city and its growth. The most important works of architecture and art are set against the backdrop of the reflections. The student becomes familiar with the evolution of the leading artistic trends in Milan and the reception of international phenomena on the ground of the city and their cultural reception. The analysis is based on both works of avant-garde and contemporary art, which are strongly linked to the city's development. The student acquires knowledge of the history of design trends in Italy from the beginning of the 20th century, through Futurism, Pop, Postmodernism, and the latest trends. Participants learn about the most important Milanese designers and companies. Fashion, which is inseparably associated with the city, is the final section of the course. The programme touches on the origins of fashion shows in Florence and the development of Milan as the Italian fashion capital. The most important fashion brands, designers, and styles are recalled. Students are able to use the information to comprehend the influence of the arts on the city's development and the emergence of a specific culture based largely on the visual sphere.

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

H1A_W01 the student has basic knowledge on the importance of the Milan's art, fashion and culture their place on the map of other studies understands the specific character of the subject and its methodology - learns about the history of Milan again the background of European culture.

H1A_W10 the student has basic knowledge of the cultural institutions and contemporary cultural life - learns about cultural institutions of Milan and can link them to the questions of the course.

H1A_U01 the student can search for information, analyze, and select data using various scientific methods - can search for the information on the fashion, art and culture of Milan using primary and secondary sources.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Active participation 20%

Final Presentation (saving via MOODLE) 60%

Participation in class (max. 2 absences per semester) 20%

EVALUATION CRITERIA

FOR 5 - student knows excellent the questions of Milan's architecture, art, and design chronology and can recognize and name the leading cultural sites of the city based on visual material. Knows well all the leading fashion brands and figures.

FOR 4 - student knows well the questions of Milan's architecture, art, and design chronology and can partially recognize and name the leading cultural sites of the city based on visual material. Knows some of the leading fashion brands and figures.

FOR 3 - student knows basic questions of Milan's architecture, art, and design chronology and can vaguely recognize and name the leading cultural sites of the city based on visual material. Partially knows some of the leading fashion brands and figures.
