Short description:

Objective of the lecture is to acquaint students with ethical directions and basic ethical concepts: values, virtues, freedom, conscience, responsibility. Students know the criteria for the moral evaluation of action.

Full description:

The lecture is an attempt to explain what is the moral interpretation of human activities (attitudes, decisions, reactions, etc.). During the course the following issues will be discussed:

1. Ethics and morality

2. Ethical directions

3. Human a person

4. Act as a conscious human action

5. Human freedom

6. Moral responsibility

7. What is conscience?

8. Guilt and feeling of guilt

9. Thomist and phenomenological concept of values

10. Philosophical conceptions of virtues

11. Philosophical conceptions of justice

12. Ethical dimension of friendship

13. Linguistic harm

14. The experience ot time and identity of subject

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

Knowledge: student knows what ethics as an academic discipline, knows main ethical directions, points out principles of moral evaluation of human action, defines and describes basic ethical categories: freedom, responsibility, coscience, values, virtues

Skills: student analyzes, interprets and criticizes texts of ethics, can argues and establish criterias of moral evaluation

Competence: student is able to participate in ethical discussion, perceives moral dimension of reality, being aware of its multifaceted, respects another human and appreciates the importance of moral values in human life

ECTS:

Participation in the lecture - 30 hours

Text reading - 10 hours

Written text analysis - 5 hours

Preparation for the exam - 10 hours

Consultation - 5 hours

Total hours - 60: 30 = 2 ECTS

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Knowledge:

- on grade 2 (ndst): a student does not know what ethics is as a scientific discipline, does not know the main ethical direction, does not define basic ethical categories

- on grade 3 (dst.): student knows what ethics is as a scientific discipline, knows the main ethical lines but can not explain them, defines basic ethical categories

- on grade 4 (db.): student student knows what ethics is as a scientific discipline, knows the main ethical directions and can describe them briefly, indicates principles of moral evaluation of human activity, defines and characterizes basic ethical categories

- on grade 5 (bdb.): a student knows what ethics is as a scientific discipline, knows the main ethical directions and describes them precisely, indicates the principles of moral evaluation of human activity, defines and details the basic ethical categories

Skills:

- on grade 2 (ndst.): the student does not read and does not analyze ethical philosophical texts, can not justify a particular ethical position

- on grade 3 (dst.): student reads, but does not analyze ethical philosophical texts, selects few arguments for a particular ethical position on a given issue

- on grade 4 (db.): student reads and analyzes ethical philosophical texts, can justify a particular ethical position

- on assessment 5 (bdb.): the student analyzes, interprets and rationally criticizes ethical philosophical texts, selects logical arguments for a particular ethical position on the subject, establishes ethical evaluation criteria

Competence:

The degree of moral awareness of the reality is assessed, as well as the ability to discuss ethical issues: drawing appropriate conclusions and selecting arguments.

The final grade consists of:

1) evaluation from the test

2) evaluation with written analysis of the indicated text

3) participation and activity in class
