Short description: |
Over the last decade, the dark side of personality has grown from an area of exclusive concern to clinicians to researchers in various areas now trying to understand how traits like psychopathy and perfectionism might play out in subclinical populations. Researchers have examined interpersonal functioning, intrapersonal motives, and social consequences of these traits. This course will examine the various aspects of human darkness. |
Full description: |
Most research on personality focuses on the light side. Indeed, some people think that it is inappropriate to even call dark side traits personality traits and instead they prefer the idea that they are disordered traits. This is a rather limited and alarmist perspective. In this class we review the method and research on several traits that are often considered pathologies from a clinical perspective but might be part of the normal range of personality when studied in the population at large. |
