Short description:

The aim of the course is to learn the principles and stages of Gestalt psychotherapy, and then to show the possibility of using this therapy in penitentiary isolation. The practical goal is to encourage the search for therapeutic forms adapted to work with prisoners.

Assumptions and goals

The cognitive goals of the subject are to learn the principles and stages of Gestalt therapy.

The educational goal of the subject is to teach the skills of conducting individual or group therapy (including Gestalt therapy) among prisoners and juveniles of correctional facilities, and the educational goal is to encourage therapeutic openness to the world of institutional isolation.

Form of credit: preparation of a written paper on a given topic.

Program content

1. Gestalt therapy - the aim of therapy, theory (figure).

2. Possible influence of crowd psychology and psychomanipulation mechanisms on the effectiveness of Gestalt psychotherapy.

3. Phases of therapy - awareness, responsibility, experimentation, consolidation.

4. Related (auxiliary) methods that can be used together with Gestalt psychotherapy.

5. Undisturbed body functions in Gestalt therapy.

6. Disturbed body functions in Gestalt therapy.

7. Defense mechanisms in Gestalt therapy - introjection, projection, retroflexion, confluence.

8. Relation of Gestalt psychotherapy to the conditions of penitentiary (institution) isolation.

Efekty kształcenia i opis ECTS:

EK1. After completing the course, the student will be able to explain the essence and discuss the most important elements of psychotherapy in general.

EK2. After completing the course, the student will be able to characterize the most important differences between therapy and prophylaxis.

EK3. After completing the course, the student will know the basic Gestalt formulas.

EK4. After completing the course, the student will know the stages of Gestalt therapy

EK5. After completing the course, the student will be able to show the "figures" of the Gestalt in various categories of prisoners (pupils of correctional institutions).

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

F: formative assessment includes feedback to the student from the teacher during the course related to:

F1 - previously prepared material and presented by the student in class;

F2 - student's statements showing understanding or lack of understanding of the content discussed during classes;

F3 - questions asked by the student showing the level of knowledge and interest in the issues raised;

F4 - student's cognitive activity during classes (knowledge of the literature on the subject, making comparisons, drawing conclusions on their own, etc.).

P: the summative grade enabling the student to pass the course is issued at the end of the course and includes:

P1 - assessment of the student's activity during classes (attendance in classes is also taken into account);

P2 - assessment of the topic prepared and presented during the classes;

P3 - grade from the oral exam (this is an essential element of the final assessment).

In the case of the oral exam, a very good grade means a very good knowledge of the content of the lecture and the assigned literature, along with practical recommendations, a good grade means a good knowledge of the lecture content and the assigned literature, a satisfactory grade means a basic orientation in the content of the subject, an unsatisfactory grade means a lack of basic orientation in the content item.
